Fall 2007 Update

Welcome back! After taking a nice summer break we are ready for a busy new school year. Plans are being made for the following:

- a multimedia resources for educators stand-alone web site
- at least two exciting preconference workshops on the Wednesday of the MACUL conference
- making changes to the MACUL-SIGMM Video and Multimedia contests

Do you have any ideas for the coming year? Our goal is to become a valuable group for sharing, learning and using multimedia in education. Your comments, ideas and questions are welcome!

If anyone is interested in seeing what the new Mac Web Gallery feature looks like (you need iPhoto 08 and a .Mac account), feel free to check out my Europe 2007 photos:

I posted the photos in full quality for friends to download, so you will need a high-speed connection to see them well. There are multiple options on the front page for viewing. It is a great option for easily sharing photos on the web. I took the photos with my new Nikon D40 DSLR. Its a great buy at under $600! The Canon photos were taken with a Canon SD800.

Please share any videos, photos or other multimedia you may have posted and do not mind sharing.

Great idea! That leads into several half baked ideas for us to consider (maybe expand upon). It might be interesting if we as a group would connect via del.icio.us, so that we could see what links each of us were bookmarking on the web concerning multimedia. We could even set up some special sigmm tags that would flag things appropriate for our group.
Also, after thinking about it over the summer and in light of apple's change to iMovie, maybe we should consider more about 'YouTube' type of videos (integrating the flash conversion). That would be something that we could include in a precon or other conference. It would seem to fall into the concept of podcasting also. If we don't start moving in that direction, some other sig probably will and I would think it would be more appropriate housed in our sig!

Since our SIGMM contest has an "open" category this year, schools might want to enter multiple contests with the same entry. The Interactive contest has a huge grand prize (while our SIGMM contest boasts a great deal of sincerity.) Here's the details:

"We at TeacherTube wanted to make sure our community members were aware of a great opportunity to win an interactive classroom makeover worth over $15,000.00. That's right-- $15,000.00! Interwrite Learning and TeacherTube are partnering to bring this contest to classroom teachers. Check out all the details at http://www.teachertube.com/makeover. Your video submission could be the big winner!"

We are still looking into an improved web presence. Something like a TeacherTube or YouTube option for sharing video and multimedia would be great. Or we can use existing sites and simply link to them.
