Here at SIGMM we hope to build a community of Michigan educators (and a few others from nearby states) who are interested in learning and sharing about multimedia uses in education. We plan to use this blog as one way to share such information and feedback.
Do you make and edit digital videos? If so, what software do you use? Have you made and posted any video or audio podcasts? If so, how did you make them and where can we find them (if you do not mind sharing)?

I am looking into podcasting for my school district. I teach Digital Video Production in a Mac lab using iMove and FInal Cut Express. Like most teachers, I am always looking for new ideas. We are also discussing in another area on this blog about opening up the SIGMM video contest to hopefully get a wider range of videos next year.
I use Camtasia to make video tutorials for teaching staff (an example of MovieMaker tutorials are posted at http://walledlake.k12.mi.us/tech/PD/MM/TrainingVideo.html), Adobe Premiere for making Informational videos (an example of a video about our laptop program: http://walledlake.k12.mi.us/AAL/Videos/WLCS_AAL_2007-2008.wmv, and use MovieMaker and Photostory for student projects (example: http://walledlake.k12.mi.us/aal/digstorytelling).

Thanks for sharing some excellent Windows resources for making a variety of video projects. I am often asked what I would recommend for Windows users and I usually guess at some options based on what I have heard. On the Mac side video tutorials can be made with Snapz Pro. For those who cannot afford the full version of Adobe Premiere (or its difficulty level), I have heard great things about Premiere Elements (including from Leslie Fisher).
Does anyone know, is there a new version of MovieMaker in Windows Vista?
I am fortunate to have both platforms in my lab. We use iMovie for our weekly news show that we show on TV over our school districts network. For the Windows platform I use Photostory 3 for digital storytelling and other beginning projects. Later I use Moviemaker and my advanced students use Pinnacle Studio 10. The rap on Photostory 3 was always that you couldn't make DVDs but there is a new plugin now available for $15 that allows you to do so. I am not aware of any improvements in Moviemaker with the Vista OS.
We make claymation animation videos with digital still shots and movie maker. Kids as young as 2nd grade can make their own digital story with Photo Story 3. I have made podcasts with Odeo, but any podcasts I have made to date seem like just an excuse to make a podcast. Other formats always seem to work better. I use Camtasia to make instructional videos, but other teachers in my district are using the software (free download) that comes with their smartboard. I think it is called smart notebook.

Digital video editing and other multimedia uses have spread far and wide across the curriculum. I encourage everyone to start thinking about the SIGMM video and/or multimedia contests next year. We are making changes to offer more options (see other topic area).
Please keep sharing what you do and use in your classrooms!
I recently saw a demonstration by one of our teachers about using Photo Story (Windows) for digital storytelling. That may be a good topic for a summer workshop too. Is anyone else using Photo Story in their districts?
I am tech support for Caledonia Community Schools middle schools. I have a couple of teachers at my buildings who are making video podcasts using iMove and Garageband.
